Chambers C1 Firmware Update

Firmware Update Procedure

Every C1 ships with firmware that I think is 100% awesome, but you know … stuff happens. I am not planning on adding any more features to Chambers, but this page will help you update your pedal in the rare event that:

  1. Something is horribly wrong and I had to fix a bug

  2. There is a breakthrough in the algorithm development and the improvements are dramatic enough that it think it is worth it for everyone to update

So far, only #2 has happened.

Chambers uses the Daisy platform from Electro-Smith and their tools can be used to update the firmware in Chambers. I recognize that this process is a little tricky and so please feel free to get in touch with any questions. If you aren’t comfortable doing this, then I can also arrange to update your pedal if you ship it back to me.

What You Will Need

  1. A Phillips screwdriver for taking the back off the pedal

  2. A small screwdriver or chip puller for removing the Daisy Seed

  3. Any micro-USB cable, such as this one from Electro-Smith or even the one from your old Android phone

  4. The .bin firmware file

  5. Chrome browser preferred

You’ll notice that the pedal has a small cut out through which you can see the USB port. However, due to a design defect the first batch of enclosures has a cut out that is too small to actually accept any actual micro usb cables. Oooops! So the pedal must be partially disassembled to flash its firmware.

Update Procedure

  1. Download the .bin file below.

  2. Take the four screws out and remove the back plate from the pedal.

  3. We need to remove the small Daisy seed daughterboard. The seed board sits on five headers with small pins, so it needs to be removed very carefully. Gently lever the board up on each side with a small screwdriver, being careful not too apply too much force on any side. Then lift the board out of the pedal. Double check the pins underneath and make sure that they weren’t damaged or bent during the extraction.

  4. Connect the micro-usb cable to the Daisy seed.

  5. Open Chrome and go to https://flash.daisy.audio.

  6. The Daisy has two small buttons marked BOOT and RESET. Hold down the BOOT button and press the RESET button. It’s now ready to be programmed.

  7. Click into the “File Upload” tab on the Daisy site. Drag or select the .bin file to program.

  8. Click the Flash button! If everything is connected correctly, then it will show that it is writing the firmware. Wait until it completes and then disconnect the usb cable.

  9. Time to put the Daisy back into the pedal. Again, check that all the pins are straight and then very carefully place it back into its headers. Triple check that all the pins are aligned before pushing it all the way into place.

  10. Apply power to the pedal. Click the foot switch on and off and if you get the green light then it worked!

  11. Put the back plate back on the pedal and it’s time to try out the new reverbs.
